We have an economic system that detaches us from the Earth (where all things that exist and come from [beyond the confines of the atmosphere] - even Humans that originally evolved from the ocean) and rapes it unforgivingly. It has produced a social mindset that has detached human beings (- homo sapiens [the wise ones (of the Earth)]) from that provider of all (the Earth, where we come from and thrive off of) and rendered humanity very unhappy both emotionally and physically.
This economic system consumes and produces everything there is from every material on Earth. Humanity (our economy) breaks down food into corn syrup and mixes it with water, red dye and other chemically injected things to create an unnaturally occurring item. We break down nature and reconstruct it into new things. We take metals and add fire with force and build structures. We are disassembling what was originally and putting it back together again in a way we see fit. We cut wood from trees into new shapes to make boats and tables and chairs. Everything we have in psychical form comes from the Earth. We consume it and produce it into things in the way we think is best for us. We take what is natural and make it of us. We make it a product of humanity, and it becomes a servant to us. This is our economy.
Our economy is also based on the 100% inaccurate assumption that the Earth is infinite and all humanity needs to do is make progress in the form of growth (AKA taking more from the Earth). Taking more to disassemble and reconstruct to what we think is our own benefit. Doing this and basing our way of life around it is disastrous. The Earth is finite. You cannot just take and take blindly in a finite situation. A finite situation means it is final, final as in there is an end amount of it. There is only so much the Earth can provide to us without sacrificing itself as a whole (a whole WE need to function properly to survive) but again, we are raping it. Our system is taking more than the Earth can provide. The result has been climate change. This as stems raping the land.
